Ircon Ltd., followed up on the experience gained from implementation of the public contract "Providing access to safe drinking water to the inhabitants of Loka Abaya woreda in the Sidama zone", which was the next stage of a wider project entitled "Implementing a sustainable drinking water supply system in the Sidama zone, SNNPR, Ethiopia". The aim of the project was to ensure access to drinking water, ensure a sustainable supply of drinking water and significantly reduce the number of people suffering from water shortages in a given locality. As part of this public contract, a water supply infrastructure was built (approx. 15 km of pipelines with dispensing points, 200 m3 reservoir, fitted pump for a well made in the previous stage, connection to the electrical network and supply of a backup generator). The project also included community surveys and training in sanitation and hygiene habits. The whole system covered the consumption of drinking water for about 15,500 inhabitants living in the countryside. Ircon Ltd., implemented the project in cooperation with the non-profit organization People in Need and Aquatest a.s. The project was funded by the Czech Development Agency and was completed in October 2019.
